Came back for another experience when I was trying to cancel, complete fraud. The guy demanded fees on top of fees on top of fees just for canceling. It came out to about $200. I told him you'll be hearing from my lawyer. He just smiled and said I love hearing from lawyers. This guy's a complete scam. I would recommend just going on the neighborly app or the Craigslist and finding someone with a bigger house who will do a storage kind of lease with you. Personally, you'll save a lot of money

horribly unprofessional, and in my experience, their insurance is a scam. highly recommend getting your own insurance, or, better yet, using a different facility. my unit was on the second floor. when i moved in, the lift was broken. when i moved out, the lift was broken and i had to pay movers an extra fee for having to use the stairs. any time i needed access help or had a question, the manager luis was “out of town” and all of the representatives were out of office on a 2+ hour lunch. i waited outside for over an hour on more than one occasion, defaulting to calling the corporate office to ask if anyone was supposed to be working at the facility. there was damage to brand new outdoor furniture in my unit. a visible hole was in the ceiling where antifreeze or some other chemical came through the ceiling and into my unit. i let them know right away, and filed a claim. they concluded they were not responsible for the damage to my property, despite the immediate report and photo evidence of the hole in the ceiling and the damage to my brand new furniture. i provided receipts for the furniture. however, A1 refused to take responsibility. when i asked to have the claim reviewed, all of my emails were completely ignored. i never heard back from them again. i found the conduct of the staff to be super rude and super unprofessional, and i don’t recommend this place to anyone.

Beware of deceptive pricing and unprofessional customer service! I moved to San Jose in February 2025 and chose A-1 Storage based on what appeared to be a fair $75/month rate after providing proof of insurance. I was told I'd receive a $14 credit on my next bill. Instead, in March, I was charged a $14 "Customer Protection Plan" fee. When I flagged it, the manager (Luis) falsely claimed I hadn't submitted insurance--even though I had. On move-in day, the front desk had already called me in twice to fix paperwork they had initially overlooked. I stayed patient, but this level of disorganization around contracts and billing is unacceptable and clearly reflects poor employee training and internal processes. I only received my $28 refund after escalating the issue in April. Then in June - just four months later - I was notified that my rent would jump to $90/month. When I called for clarification, Luis was rude, interrupted me repeatedly, and claimed rate hikes happen 2-3 times a year. He even had the nerve to say he "did me a favor" by refunding money that was never theirs to keep. He kept brushing off my concerns, saying "it's only $15" - completely missing the real issue: deceptive pricing, poor communication, and a complete lack of accountability. To make matters worse, their own Yelp FAQ says rate increases "may/may not" occur every 6 months - but mine came after just four. Luis then told me I was "getting a deal" because the same unit now goes for $138/month. That's not my problem - I signed up during a non-peak period under completely different terms. This is textbook bait-and-switch: attract customers with a low rate, then spike prices once they're locked in. Bottom line: A-1 Storage operates with hidden fees, misleading policies, and dismissive management. Save yourself the hassle - take your business elsewhere.
